'Conan' and 'Red Sonja' to Meet Again in 2014 / by Delon de Metz

Robert E. Howard's famous Barbarian to meet up with the She-Devil with a Sword for the first time in more than 10 years in two series next year.

Just a day after indie publishers Dark Horse and Dynamite announced their first crossover series, the two have revealed the second -- and it's one that just might fulfill the traditional claim of "because you demanded it." For the first time in more than 15 years, Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja, She-Devil with a Sword are going to come face to face.

Unlike The Shadow vs. Grendel, the Conan/Red Sonja crossover will take the form of two different miniseries, with both Dynamite Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics releasing their own take on the idea written by the regular writers of the Conan and Red Sonja series, Brian Wood and Gail Simone.

STORY: Dynamite, Dark Horse Announce 'The Shadow vs. Grendel'

"Conan and Red Sonja together are a genre dream team, and I'm looking forward to not only working with Gail on the story, but creating a crossover story that is epic and huge as these things should be," said Wood about the crossover between the characters, with Simone describing it as "only the crossover that readers have been begging to have for over a decade: the two greatest barbarian adventurers ever created in an epic tale of blood, lust  and vengeance."

Red Sonja was originally created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith for the Marvel Comics Conan the Barbarian series in 1973 -- strongly inspired by the Robert E. Howard character Red Sonya of Rogatino -- with the two making their last appearance together in the mid-1990s before Marvel lost the publishing rights to both characters.

The two new crossover series will be published next year, with more details, including the artists for each series, to follow.
